My letter didn't say anything about a number of people waitlisted vs. alternates.  It said that if they get approved to expand their class size then I would be in.  Is that the same thing?

No, there are two waitlist. If the class size isn't approved then the two waitlist will be combined but you will be ahead of the other 8.

Does anyone know how many people they are trying to expand the class size by?

6. They're trying to go from 24 to 30 I believe

So is being alternate or waitlisted considered "better" (like which one will have students taken off of it first if more spots become available)?

Both are alternate. It seems like these 6 people that are waiting are better off because they are guaranteeing a spot if they are able to increase the class size.

So did the letter itself actually state about accepting students if it expanded from 24 to 30, or did someone reach out to the admissions coordinator to find out if they are one of these six people?

The letter actually says that. If the increase in seats are approved, the applicant will be accepted to the cohort on June 2025.
