Missouri State University Admission

Hi, I am just wondering how hard it is to get into Missouri State's nursing program. If anyone who has gone their could give me some information, that would be great. Thanks!

I'm an alumni, but it's been several years since I graduated, so take my advice with that caveat in mind. You'll have to have a pretty decent GPA, as it's the primary consideration for ranking applicants. I think they give additional weight to completing prerequisites at MSU as well as getting desired grades in A&P and micro (if completed prior to the application date). Their pre-nursing advisor might try to convince you that admission is impossible, but I assure you, it's not. She will, however, recommend applying to more than one school, which is sound advice if you're looking to start at a specific time.

I had no CNA experience when I applied, but I would strongly recommend it. Students with prior healthcare experience seemed to have an initial advantage when it came time for clinical sessions.

All in all, I think the program prepared me well for being a nurse and I'd recommend it to others. I was shocked to find out how little nurses are paid in this area, but I freely admit I didn't research it ahead of time because my primary career goal was more than just the paycheck.

Thanks you. And will I do my prereqs the first two years there or one year and then start clinicals?

Also I volunteer at a hospital right now; would they take that into consideration as well.

Have you started at all yet? If not, call the department and meet with their prenursing advisor. You'll likely do two years of prerequisites and two of nursing classes. You start clinicals the summer after your second year if you're admitted to the program.

Your hospital volunteer work should help with admission as well.
