Hinds ADN NAHC

U.S.A. Mississippi

Published

Hi!!! I've just been accepted into the ADN program at Hinds Nursing Allied for fall 2010. I'm extremely curious about the class hours. Can anyone tell me what the hours are for lecture, lab, and clinicals? I work full-time 3p-11p with 4 days on and 2 days off at an assisted living facility. I'm usually done with all my work and sitting down around 8p which is when I do homework and study. I'm concerned about the hours because I want to know if I'm going to be able to keep my full-time job since I have time to study or if I need to go part-time. Thanks!!!

Im in 2nd semester so I really cant help ya with what 3rd and 4th semesters are like... but for

1st semester

Mon/Tue: Lecture 8a-12p

Wed/Thur: Lab 8a-4p or Clinicals 6:30a-12:30p (when you get to that point)

Fri: Varies... a lot of times you don't have class on friday, but sometimes you will have class 8a-12p

2nd semester

Mon/Tue: Lecture 9a-12p

Wed/Thur: Clinicals 6:30a-12:45p

Fri: Same as 1st semester pretty much.

Thank you so much for responding, it gives me some kind of idea how my days will go. Hopefully I can buy the books online so I can start reading and preparing for class ASAP. How is school going for you? I wish you much success with school and your career.

MrsL,

I am curious about your wait time before you received confirmation of acceptance. I understand Hinds uses a point system now and if you are notified earlier it means your received the most points????. Deadline for Spring term is September 30th; I've completed all pre-reqs, but I am concerned about acceptance. I have earned a Master's degree, but my ACT (taken years ago) was about a 19 or 20. Can you provide any information regarding your points so I can determine where I might stand? Thanks!:nurse:

Hi!!! I'm not sure how they do the points. I applied the beginning of March. I called around the beginning of April to see when they start mailing acceptance letters. I received my letter around the middle of April and went to the call-in on April 29. I have just an Associate degree because I kept changing my major. My ACT score was a 23. My GPA dropped because I signed up to take A&P 1&2 with labs last summer but couldn't take the classes because of financial aid. One of the teachers dropped me and the other didn't. I went to withdraw but I couldn't because I owed Hinds. I know this was more than enough info, but hope it helps. Good luck!!!

Im just about to graduate from Hinds AHC program (:yeah:NEXT WEEK!:yeah:) First, I want to tell you good luck! This has been the worst:mad:, best:), and most significant life changing;) experiances I have ever had. I can honestly say that I am glad I choose to go into this program. I really do feel Hinds prepares you for this field better than any other program..... but.... you will not look at it that way while in school.... also, keep in mind that being a RN is a tough job and at times demands a near impossible amount of tasks to accomplish. That being said, the program is no different. I would not recommend working a full time job during school even if you can alter your schedule around lecture and clinical. During first semester a part time job is possible depending on your other personal life obligations. Some were able to juggle the two but most failed by the time second semester began. In third and fourth semester.... a job is not really an option.... any time you have the luxury of encountering that doesnt consist of clinical, clinical paperwork, patient assignments, professional dev. points, research papers, test studying, and/or preparing for the next lectures assignments.:eek::eek:.... will undoubtly result in you making up for the lack of sleep you've racked up from accomplishing those tasks.... Not trying to scare you.... just an honest heads up of what to expect, but I can honestly say that it really is worth it.... :redpinkhe:):redpinkhe

Now, to answer your questions....

ct1989 was right with 1rst and 2nd semester schedules. You also have to take an additional class in the fall semester totaling 12hrs (nursing is 9) or full time.s

3rd Semester is

Sunday: go to hospital and choose a pt. then clincal paperwork and prep for the next day

Mon-Tues: Clinicals 6:30-12:30

Wed-Thurs: Lecture is 8 till 12

this was the only semester that barely meets on friday... mosly because you have no time to study due to other obligations....

4th Semester is sbout the same as third clinical last longer and you go to lecture on most friday's .... toward the end you go into transition... this requires higher pt load, 12hr hospital shifts, and class lectures from 8-3pm

The acceptance criteria is broken down in catagories: ACT (composite), ACT Reading score, ACT science score, ACT math score, GPA (most recent), and any other degree obtained. Those areas are futher broken down and given a point value of 1-4.... dont remember the exact break down for those. They accept around 100 students per year... hope that helps!

Again........ GOOD LUCK!!:nurse::nurse::nurse:

Thank you for your responses and being honest about your experience. I've always heard that Hinds has an excellent program.

Since I'm applying to start in January I will have to wait awhile before I hear anything. I'm glad I found this website :crying2:

traumafreak....

:yeah:CONGRATULATIONS!!!!:yeah: GOOD LUCK!!!!:yeah: Where and when will you start working? I'm so excited for you.

Do you know anything about how the Jackson area hospitals do their scholarships or reimbursement programs? I've checked out their websites, that was no help. I only called Baptist and was told that they would have a booth on orientation day.

Thank you so much for your advice, I will take it into consideration when I begin my journey. Your advice is helpful in so many ways because I'm only told that nursing school ia a lot of work, which is no problem for me. I first read your post Wednesday, and already my thoughts, plans, etc. have changed drastically. It's a GIGANTIC step that I am extremely willing and ready to take, it's just the changes I fear I'll have to make with it. I don't have to work while I"m in school, I moved back in with my grandparents so that I would have no major bills. The bills I do have I know my boyfriend can, and will, take care of them if necessary. For me, I don't like to depend on anyone, since I've grown up I'm the one others depend on, and I know it'll be harder for me than for them when the time comes to quit working or to work part-time. I'm so scared, anxious, nervous, and excited about starting school. I'm so ready to see how everything will go.:lol2:

Again, thank you and congrats!!!

nurse_hopeful...

Responding wasn't a problem at all, glad I could be helpful. I'm glad I found this website as well. Although I know plenty of nurses, they aren't as helpful as I thought they would be, not the ones close to my age anyway.

I wish you the best of luck and will have my fingers crossed and prayers for you.

GOOD LUCK!!!
