Missing Transcripts

Published

Hello All,

This story is lengthy, but I will try to summarise.

I completed my training in 1979 at a hospital on Sydney's southside in NSW. I have been offered a position in San Francisco, USA. I contacted my training institution and forwarded the request for transcripts form I received from the US. I did not know that my transcripts were never sent until I contacted the US. What had been sent was a copy of the Nursing Act that was in force when I registered and the Act came into being in the early 1960's. This was useless.

I contacted my training institutuion again and was told the school of nursing had closed and all the records were now stored at another hospital in the same area health district. I contacted this hospital and, after being transferred through many departments, I was informed that ALL the records prior to 1989 were destroyed by the NSW Health Department due to a lack of storage room. None of my colleagues, Nursing and Medical, can believe how these important records could have been destroyed.

I have met a couple of nurses who completed their training 10 years before me also in NSW and the same area Health District though at different hospitals, and they have managed to get their transcripts within the last 5 years. This would not be possible if, as claimed, ALL the records were destroyed. so were they really??

I am wondering if anyone from my era has actually managed to get their transcripts, what they look like and if they can tell me what the content is, so at least I have some idea of what I am after, to get things going to enable me to accept the job in the USA.

I would also like to know if any one else who trained in NSW is having this same problem with getting transcripts.

I have contacted many authorities and department regarding this matter with no luck, so if anyone has any ideas of any direction that I may not have covered yet, please don't hesitate to contact me with this information.

Many thanks,

lostinoz
