I am about 5 weeks pregnant and have been having cramping. I was wondering if this is normal? This is my second child and I did not experience any cramping with my first. Just wondering if I may be having a miscarriage.

Thank you for any info.

stop beating yourself up. Your doc is working tonight, call him or her

Hi!

Miscarriage usually presents with bleeding. You need to have an ultrasound. Consult your OB, cramping is not normal in the first trimester of pregnancy.

I agree, you need to get in touch with your Doc and get it checked out.......However, try no to worry til they tell you to (sooo easy for ME to say huh!??).....With my first pregnancy I had cramping and bleeding at 6 weeks, the doc did an ultrasound and said that, "I can see the yolk sac, but there is no embryo there, you will probably have a miscarriage in the nest couple of days, I'm sorry."....well, it never happened!!....so a week later he did another U/S, and everything was fine!!...no problems ever after that!!....and now "my baby" is 10 yrs old, a happy, healthy, beautiful kid!!.....Anyway, hang in there, it will all work out!!.....I 'll be thinkin' about ya, let us know how things go!!

Unfortunately, at 5 weeks little can be done to save a pregnancy. Ultrasound would be indicated at this early stage of pregnancy to rule out ectopic pregnacy and perhaps an hCG level is indicated, too. The hCG levels should be rising rapidly at this point. In the absense of lady partsl bleeding, cramping may be caused by something other than contracting of the uterus. It could be gas pains. Still, I wouldn't hesitate to call the OB for his recommendations and your peace of mind and reassurance.

I have two beautiful boys, but before each of them I had a miscarriage. The first time I was 11.5 wks and had to have a d&c, the second time the baby stopped growing at six wks and I should have been 8wks. I miscarried naturally that time.

However, with all my pregnancies I had twinges of pain, even early on. All women are all made differently and therefore all pregnancies are not the same.

You should consult your doctor about your concerns though.

I know it is worse when you have to wait to find out something that could end up being okay.

I hope everything turns out fine. God Bless.
