Minorities as CRNAs

seems from the lack of responses i have received about minorities as crnas that there arent many of them. which gives me hope for when i apply to a school as a minority male nurse. if anyone comes across any information that might be help to me i would appreciate it if you would pass it along to me. thanks to all those that have read my post. walter

Yes, there are "minority" CRNAs. The definition of minority is relative.

Is your only "minority" being a male? If that's it, you are not a minority. In my class of 30, twenty of my classmates are male. Besides, affirmative action is dead. It's all about merit in the real world. Are you as good or better that the next NURSE. The best of the best are CRNAs, doens't matter race, creed or color... or sex for that matter. Can you do the job... which is the way it should be.

There are a lot of minorities who are CRNAs. But, I agree with Qwiigley that it doesn't matter any more. It is my opinion that nurse anesthetists as a profession are a good cross section of society. I don't know the recent statistics, but at one time, over 40% were men, lots of various races and religions. I would not look for a minority status as a key to admission.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts on the subject. I am glad to know that being a minority isnt going to give me preference over other candidates. When I get into a program I want to know it was because I was good enough on my merits only and for no other reason. I have worked hard and long and didnt want anyone saying the only reason you got your slot is because you are a minority. I want them to know I am as good as everyone else in the class and that is the end of that. :} Walter
