Finished my application for MSA. Anyone else applying this year? Now the wait...
I know this is probably a different question than most of you have received, but i need to ask it. I am currently going to school for my BSN. First I am getting my ADN and then going to a University to get my BSN. I am not so much worried about GPA as much as getting work in an ICU. If any of you could explain how you were able to get a job in a ICU, it would help me out a lot. All hospitals around me only hire people with ICU experience, so how then do you get in? Thank you
I assume you'll be working as a RN while working on your BSN. During that year or so, get to know people at your hospital. Meet managers of the various ICUs and let them know that you want to get into the ICU and that you are working on your BSN. Plus, the year of RN exp. will help. As far as GPA goes, they DO look at that and take that seriously. Since you're in school, you can do something about it now, so shoot for 4.0.
Seansanf120,
Hello, hope you're doing well. I am trying to research MSA and I stumbled upon your posts. I was wondering how you liked the school, and if you would reccommend it to aspiring SRNAs? (I'm sorry to post it onto here, but I cannot figure out how to PM on this website.) thanks!
MSA is a great program. You start the end of August and by the beginning of November you are in the OR which is a huge benefit over other programs. You get tons of OR experience and get way over the required amount of cases/ OR time. You also get to do most of your clinicals (besides 6 weeks total of rural clinical) within the twin cities so not as much travel as some of the other programs. I've talked to many graduates of MSA and they felt very well prepared starting their jobs as new grads. They also prepare you very well for the boards and have a lot of review built into the program.
