Minneapolis School of Anesthesia (MSA) 2024

Published

Hi,

Wanted to start a forum for those applying to MSA for the 2024 cohort. Anybody else surprised that they switched the start date from January to May?

I was accepted to both programs to! I am leaning more towards MSA because of their reputation and how many more clinical hours they get once they start clinical. They pretty much start full time with maybe one or two classes a semester. Most of the CRNA's I have talked to have said that is what puts them ahead of St. Mary's is how much more clinical experience they have gotten and how many more sites they have to rotate through. I just talked to a recent grad who said they are going to be adding more sites in the future as well. I plan to join the zoom session next week to make my final answer. Exciting times!

I'm considering the same and I discussed the clinical preparedness with the current students as well. Have to consider the difference in cost and start dates, mostly, at this point. Very exciting, indeed! Do you know when St Mary's needs to hear by? I didn't see that in their offer letter.

I'm in the same boat! However, I have heard that St Mary's has improved tenfold after their new program director took over. They also seem to have more flexibility/greater number of clinical sites. It did seem that MSA is more organized though. I have no idea how I'll pick! See you in the zoom session

Yayy I got my phone call too! So excited to see everyone in the zoom session!

In regards to clinical, someone told me MSA has more clinical sites in the cities while St. Mary's had more rural sites (just fyi if you'd prefer to stay closer to home). Not sure if that has changed with the Saint Mary's recently.

All the best to those currently waitlisted or still waiting to hear back.

Someone told that when St. Mary's starts clinical, they are only in clinical one day a week as opposed to MSA students are in clinical 4 days a week. I think St. Mary's student do clinical one day a week for one whole semester. Could be wrong though. That's why I hear so many CRNA's so impressed with first year rotation MSA students because they have so much more knowledge when they start. I also loved hearing about the new leadership and it sounds like their new director is younger and he brings a new perspective since he is a recent grad. Their program sounds so much more smoothly ran with new staff and exciting things for the future.

I know someone who is currently a student at St. Mary's. He speaks very highly of the program, especially how accommodating they are to their students. I agree that MSA seemed more professional.. but I also feel like St. Mary's was more welcoming... Statistically, the two are so similar, not sure how I will choose. Hoping the meeting next week will shed more light on which is a better fit. Keep me posted with what you guys end up choosing! Regardless we are so lucky to get in at all!
