Mini IV infusion at school?!

Count me in!!

Student is a hemophiliac who's mom works on campus. She used my office to infuse her son today after he hit his arm last night and she noticed a decrease in ROM. When she couldn't get access after two attempts she passed the baton to me. Not to brag or anything, but after being off the floor for 7+ months, I nailed it, first try! It was fun to show off a little and let them see that I'm not just some regular staff member. I come with a set of skills that is often not seen in the school!

It's been a good day, tater

BAM!!!!

Impressive. I worked 28 years in a hospital and never had to start an IV. I worked at a "nurses" hospital and was spoiled.

Same here. We had an IV team that started IV's. I never started one.

We always worked as a team starting IV's on the Pedi floor - so I rarely had to do them because there almost always was someone better at it than me :)

Awesome!!! I have never put in an IV before. When I worked nights on sub acute, there weren't any opportunities to do so. And now I'm here. I did meds of course and played around with picc lines but not placing one in. I want the experience to do so!!

I miss drawing blood and starting IVs.

I'm honestly shocked at how many haven't placed an IV!! At the hospital I worked at, they always came to the floor from the ED with a line in place unless they were a direct admit. But we had lines blow all of the time for one reason or another, so we were constantly restarting lines every shift I worked it seemed! I do love me some PICC lines though! They're placed at bedside by the PICC team and then we reap the benefits of having not one, but at least two lines to go with. We had a "Sono-site Team" as well, for the hard stick patients, but they were almost ALWAYS too busy to come help. Lots of opportunities to place an IV in my old hospital!!

AWESOME!!!

I was never a great IV starter. I loved doing arterial blood draws. THAT was my jam. :)
