Military Spouse Nursing

Published

I just got accepted into my accelerated BSN program (yay!!) and I'm curious about all of the moving around/licensing/reciprocity hooplah that comes along with the situation I'm in.

From what I gather, I can take the NCLEX wherever, and then need to apply for licensure in whatever state ill be working in at that time. Are there any other tricks, loopholes, things I would need to know about that?

When we move, I will need to contact the people who issue licensing in the new state we are moving to?

What if I move to a state that doesn't have reciprocity? What is the (general) protocol for bring able to work in that state?

I'm wondering how much resistance/stress I'm going to experience or if this is a relatively easy transition from state to state (as a mil spouse)

Thank you!

It is expensive so plan ahead. Look up the state board contact them. Not every state accepts every school

You will need to plan ahead for each move or it can be stressful. Go to the BON website of the state you are moving to and see what their requirements for endorsing your license to their state is. I would start the application process as soon as you have orders because some states take longer than others to issue a license. I think for licenses with multi state privilege they are valid in any state that is a member of the compact, as long as you do not change residency from the state that initially issued your license.
