Does anyone know anything about this? I am very interested in working in the military as a nurse. However, I am not sure what might await me. People tell me how military recruiters will tell you anything just to get you signed up. Plus, I am married with children and while I do not mind being stationed overseas I simply do not want to be separated from my family.
Also, which branch is more family friendly?

If the military wanted you to have a family......they'd issue you one.
Sorry, old Army brat joke. I'll move this to the Military forum for better expsoure.
Good luck.

Ma'am-
Been in the Navy for 10+ years, the above statement regarding your family pretty much tells me it might not be a good move for you. I too am married, my wife is also Navy, we have 3 children and wanting a 4th. We don't necessarily want to be separated from each other either, but in today's military it's not the exception, it's the rule. All the branches have a pretty high operational tempo and currently there are no plans to slow down. You can expect at least one deployment per duty station in the Navy, sometimes 2, depends on where you are. The Mrs. is getting ready to deploy in April for 2 months, then home for a month, then back out for 4 months and that is considered a great deployment. Most deployments are 6 months straight and the Army does some that are 12 months. I go out this summer for 2 weeks while the Mrs. is gone and the grandparents will watch the boys. Then next summer I got out for 4 months. So if that sounds like your kind of lifestyle, tell me how I can help. For us, it's worth it, for all we get back from the Navy, also the work is very rewarding. So if you want a job where you go to work and then home everyday, you may not like any of the services. Sorry if that seems a bit harsh, but it's the reality. Anyone here will tell you, I tell it like it is. Would hate for you to make the decision to come in and be miserable. If you are still interested, tell me how I can help.

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond to my inquiry. You have clarified a lot of questions in my mind. With that said, I do not think that the military nursing is a good fit for me :-). God bless you and your family.

I love that response that you gave her, whatever it is that you and your wife are doin, I want to do that too! Really Im serious! You put it in the best words and the travelin as well as deployment is exactly how i want to be while in the military. Ive been thinking about this thing for almost 5 yrs now. How can I do the same thing? Where do i need to start as far as schooling or just gettin into the Navy period? You are such a big inspiration!! BIG INSPIRATION!:bowingpur
