Military move overseas as civilian RN

Published

My husband is a Naval active duty service member. We just received orders to PCS to Sigonella Italy in February 2012. I have been working as a civilian RN for only 2 years, one yr as home health nurse and one yr in a hospital setting. It took so long to land the hospital job and I am nervous to be unemployed again. I started looking up civilian nursing jobs in Sigonella. I want to continue working as a RN once we move overseas. I hear that the hospital is very small and there are rarely positions for spouses or civilians. After hearing this I am looking for any nursing job.

Any advice or suggestions?

I'm in just about the same boat you're in. I, too, am a RN and my husband has orders Sigonella in November. Working as a RN there is my only stressor at this point. Put your resume in at USAJOBS.com and keep looking there daily. You don't want to miss anything. Hang in there. I'll see you when you get there. Maybe I'll be able to help then.

^^^ Agree with above poster about USAJOBS.COM, also when you get to your base contact the civilian personnel office, that's what its called in AF, but Navy should have an equivalent. They usually always have a ton of info about jobs for spouses on and off base.
