I am currently a civilian, never served and will be starting a CRNA program this fall. I have spoke with a recruiter about the STRAP program. The program will give me a monthly stippen 1200+/month and up to 50000 in loan repayment. My total time served will be 6 years (2 years of school and 4 years in the reserve). Questin 1: With current world affairs how soon should i expected to be deployed after school. Not that I would a problem being deployed but i would idealy like to work as a CRNA for a year or so for experience. Question 2 Would I be deployed prior to the officer training school. Question 3. Are all deployements overseas. The recruiter explained the if deployed, it would only be for 90 days/12 month period. Question 4. true or not true.

Hi CSIMS, I too am looking into the STRAP program through the reserves. The recruiter that I am talking to has made it sound like I would not be deployed before officers training however Im not completely convinced. Seems like some things I am told are not the same as what I hear from other reservists. As far as the 90days per 12 months. I dont think that is the case at all. I was told they are working on getting the time down to a 6 month range but that the average deployment time is 8-12 months. I am very excited about doing this however like you want to know the details up front. Good Luck in your endeavor. Teri

Teri I spoke with a recruiter toaday and he explained that the 90 days is true for surgens and CRNAs. The majority of the reservist that I have spoke with tell me to go for it. But you know what they say "misery loves company" so you don't know if its all good or not. Right now im about 90% sure that i will do it. How about you. Im just trying to make sure im reading between all the lines.
