Midwifery

Published

After 20 years of nursing I am thinking of recreating myself as a Midwife. Has anyone followed this pathway? Would love to hear about your steps in getting there. Thanks

I see that you have just joined. If you are like most of us, you have lurked for awhile before joining, but nevertheless, Welcome!!! I haven't started my journey yet, but have also been in the field for 20 years. I have always wanted to be a midwife; however, the time just wasn't right before. Since I haven't started yet, I can only share what my plan is and what I have discovered while I have been researching. My plan is to apply to Frontier (either class 139 or class 140). I will be taking a Physical Assessment class with them starting January 5th. I have researched other programs, but to be honest I have wanted to attend Frontier since the early 90's and can't seem to wrap my head around any other program. Some of the other online programs I've seen are University of Cincinatti and Georgetown. Vanderbilt has an online NP program, but my understanding of their midwifery program is that you have to relocate to Nashville. Of course, I could be wrong. If so, then hopefully someone will correct me as this would be valuable info for me as well. There are several other Brick and Mortar programs, but none of those are located close to me. Just do a search at the top right hand corner and you will find the answers to just about any question you might have. Good luck no matter what you choose.

Thank you mommy2anangel, great info. Funny, you mentioned Vanderbilt. While I did not attend school there, it was my first job and since then I have been, dislocated, if you will, from Tennessee by moving to Florida. Would love to have an excuse to go home. I will look into all that you have sent and should I find the answer to your relocation question I will get right back to you. Good luck to you as well.
