Midnight Nursing Duties

Published

Hello all, I am a new nurse and am starting out on Midnights. I work at a nursing home and the facility does not have guidelines for the duties of both the Noc Nurse and CNA's, so I am asking you all if you know of a place I can find standard duties for the midnight shift or have any experience with this and could help me out. Thanks in advance.

Passing a small amount of meds at midnight, a moderate amount at 6am. Lots of fasting glucoscans at 6am. Reordering meds and supplies. Monthly changeover. Checking flowsheets for which residents need bowel care. Helping the CNA with their rounds. Checking for the day's appointments and making sure 1st shift has all the necessary paperwork for said appointments. I also did monthly summaries, updated the care plans and made sure all the quarterly stuff like braden scales, pain assessments and DISKUS were done. And you have to check every chart every night to make sure every doctors order was carried out correctly.
