Hello,
I am trying to decide between Middlesex and Monmouth county vo tech. I am going for the lpn and then planning on doing an online bridge for the RN or possible BSN. The reason i am doing it this way is because I have two kids and a husband. classroom time (during the day) has to be kept to a minimum.
these two schools have different things that I like about each of them, but there is one thing Monmouth has that I am trying to find out if Middlesex has. At Monmouth vo tech, you are able to take some tests (A&P, Chem, etc...in conjuction with your lpn classes) at UMDNJ to attempt to carry those credits into an RN program. Also, i read somewhere on here that Monmouth Vo tech is accredited while Middlesex Vo tech is not. But it seems from my research that vo techs really aren't accredited... maybe approved by the state, but not accredited. Can anyone shed some light? and also address the "testing out" question regarding Middlesex vo tech?
thank you soooo much, this board has been so helpful!!!

The Monmouth County program is accredited through several nursing affiliates. With Monmouth you may opt to register and sit for college credits offered through UMDNJ in the subjects of Nursing Dynamics, Anatomy & Physiology I & II, Medical Terminology, Nutrition and Medical Math. All at an additional cost of course. These credits will transfer over to Brookdale Community College for the LPN to RN bridge program. I do believe it is true about Middlesex not being accredited (my instructor stated they are not). I do not believe Middlesex offers any upward mobility like Monmouth does. You will have better luck getting into the program which serves your county. Out of county are always second in line, if accepted at all. Do your homework. Contact Middlesex and ask them who they are accredited through (if any at all), do the same with Monmouth and compare the two. Monmouth has a 100% pass rate for licensure. Although they usually loose about 50% of the class from day one to the end. It is by no means an easy program and your family/social life will have to adapt while you are in the program. Whichever way you go, the best to you. Hope I was of some help.

thanks! That is very helpful!! I did try calling Middlesex several times, with no answer (not a good sign right there I guess). I have spoken to the woman at Monmouth a few times, and she too was very helpful. One more question, if you do pass the tests at UMDNJ will they only transfer to Brookdale or any other bridge program as well?
thanks again!
Since it is an official transcript from UMDNJ, I was told the credits will transfer anywhere. I am considering St. Francis in Trenton for the LPN to RN, as they offer a 10 month program. You need your prereq's of course and one year as an LPN to apply. I would double check with the school you are planning to continue on to RN with, just to be sure. Good luck,
