I know I keep asking this, but I can't seem to get a reply, so here goes, again.
If anyone is attending or has attended Middle Georgia College, can you tell me where you do/did your clinicals?
Thanks,
gninab

I graduated from MGC's nursing program over two years ago. I did my psych clinical at the VA hospital in Dublin, med-surg and obstetrics clinicals at FairView Park Hospital in Dublin and my peds rotation at HMC in Warner Robins. When I attended MGC, they tried to accomodate students based on travel times. Several students had clinicals in Macon.
:) Good luck!
Finally an answer! Thank you so much. It's interesting that they don't do clinicals at Taylor in Hawkinsville, or maybe they do. Cochran is a 70 mile round trip for me just to go to school. My challenge is the cost of gas, so I was wondering how far I would be expected to travel.

I don't really remember whether or not anyone had clinicals there. A few students did their preceptorships their, though. Go to the MGC website for the telephone number to nursing program faculty and give them a call. They will be able to provide you with more current information than I am able to provide.
That is an awfully long drive! One of the pitfalls of a rural area, for sure!
Thank you gninab.
It seems strange that Taylor in Hawkinsville is only 15 miles or so from the school, so I would have thought that would be at least one of the places they had clinicals.
Macon and Warner Robins are over an hour from me and Dublin is even further.
Did anyone go as far as Albany or Tifton for clinicals?
Taylor is quite small - only 36 beds. I'm sure that has a lot to do with it. It's a small, one floor facility.
I don't believe anyone in my class did clinicals at Albany or Tifton. Where are you located?

I didn't realize Taylor was so small. It looks huge from the road. We are talking about Taylor in Hawkinsville, right? Not the little state-run hospital in Cochran.
I live pretty far south of Hawkinsville.
This is the challenge: Driving 70 miles round trip to school, then having to drive over an hour one-way to any of the other hospitals listed above (Macon, Warner Robins, Dublin).
I just can't see how this is feasible or economical for me. That's why I am so interested in where the clinicals are held, before I plunge into something I won't be able to finish.
Thanks for answering me.
oops! I must have been tired when I replied previously! Perry is a 36 bed facility, not Hawkinsville! You will only have clinicals one or two days a week. I am not sure, but I think it's only one day a week. I can't remember diddlysquat lately! I am going on a much needed vacation soon. haha

I'm currently in the nursing program at MGC in Dublin. I just looked at the rotation schedule for students in Cochran and Taylor Regional is one of the hospitals listed. They also have Perry Hospital, MCCG in Macon, and the VA in Dublin listed as sites for the Cochran students.
Thank you for your response. I kept thinking Taylor in Hawkinsville looked pretty new and there appears to be outlying components to the hospital, i.e. a Wellness Center. Looked much larger than 36 beds.
Thank you for responding. Taylor in Hawkinsville wouldn't be a problem. It's less than an hour from where I live. But, as far as having to drive over an hour, one-way to Perry, Dublin, Macon and Warner Robins is just too much. So unless I could do "all" my clinicals at Taylor, it would be too far for me. And I don't expect the school to accommodate just one student.
Guess my nursing dream will just have to wait. I'm glad I asked this and for your replies before I took the plunge.
I don't know about that. If I were you I would reconsider your decision. We only attend clinicals once a week at MGC so you would only be driving once a week to whatever site you they picked for you. Maybe there will be someone in the class that you can carpool with. If money is the issue, contact the fin. aid office at MGC and see what you may qualify for. Take out student loans and save every dime that you can...starting now. Don't give up or put your dreams on hold. Good luck and let me know if I can be of any kind of assistant to you.
