Middle Ga. College vs. Macon State

Published

Hi everyone. First, the history: I'm 36, mother of 4 daughters (16, 9, and twins7) and I work full-time @ home processing sleep studies. With that being said, I've been attending the local community college (almost done with my 2nd qtr) and I'll be able to apply to the nursing program at either Middle Ga. College in Dublin or Macon State College in Macon early next Spring for fall admission. Does anyone have any firsthand knowledge of either of these schools? I've heard MCG is much better than MSC, but MSC is a little closer to me (though not by much).

I know I won't be able to work fulltime when I begin the nursing program because I hardly have time to study now.! And these are just A&P, Math, etc.. Has anyone been hired for an externship at the Medical Center (or any other hospital) and how was it?

How bad is A&PII?

I know this is a rather spastic email, but I'm really excited about entering nursing school and I want to keep that fresh so I don't give up!

Thanks!

i actually attended both of these schools. i ended up transferring to msc from mgc because i wasn't totally satisfied with mgc. i will be starting the nursing program this fall and from what i have seen msc seems to be a more organized school. i took a&p i at mgc and a&pii at msc and i can honestly say that msc was much more difficult. i have heard great things about msc and their nclex pass rates. i can't give you much info on the hospitals yet since i haven't started clinicals, but i will keep you posted if you want. i hope i helped with some of your questions. just let me know if you have anymore questions!

Thank you so much for the info! I have a friend who graduated from MSC this past May and said it was awful. She has a friend who is attending MGC and said it was so much better. See my confusion? I just finished up with A&P1 (4.0) and will be beginning A&P2 in a few weeks. I guess it wouldn't hurt to apply to both & see if I get in either one of them. Please keep me posted on your progress once you begin the program....I still have a little time before I apply! Thanks again....there don't seem to be many on this site in our area.

i've been told by alot of ppl how hard the nursing program is at msc, but they have a really high nclex pass rate. it sounds like a really good idea to apply to both, then you'll be able to make the final decision if you're accepted into both programs. i've seen only a few ppl on here around the middle ga area, but its good to finally find someone else! :) good luck with whichever school you ultimately choose. i'll keep you posted on how the msc nursing program is.

Good luck with your program! I'd love to know what your first semester schedule is. I know at MCG, only one nursing course per semester is allowed. I live in Milledgeville so driving to either college would be about the same time/distance.

I'm entering MSC as a freshman and have mostly have just the core classes this year. Decided to do the ADN route and then go back for my BSN while working as I'm determind to start working soon.

Coming right out of highschool, these are my courses I got after requesting I go full-time. I was kind of confused why she even asked me as I had just graduated....

Anatomy and Physiology - BIOL 1114K & Lab(BIOL 1114L)

College Algebra - MATH 1111(I chose the harder version than needed for the ADN, but I basically learned some of this courses material in HS)

US History since 18XX - HIST 2112

English Composition - ENGL 1101

That's a total of 13 Credit Hours. I don't really start the Nursing courses until the second year as I believe the program requires these classes be completed before entry. Could be wrong, but it looks like the ADN will take 3 years. Is that correct? Lol. :)

Wait a second.... is A&P2 during the second year of school? Please tell me we aren't going to learn this whole A&P book next to me in one semester. It's packed full of information. :o

i will be taking nurs 1110 (intro to health concepts) and its related lab and clinical time as well as nurs 1111 (psychiatric and mental health nursing) with its own seperate lab and clinical times. i think i will be taking 2 nursing classes each of the next 4 semesters (2 years).

stevarius-to answer your questions it is highly recommended that you complete most, if not all, of your core before entering the actual nursing program. the program takes up so much more time than the core classes and its pretty hard to take nursing classes alongside the core (especially micro and a&p ii). a&p ii can be taken as soon as you successfully complete a&p i and they typically use the same book for both classes unless they change due to an updated version being distributed. i completed all of my core before applying to the nursing program and i'm really glad that i did because it looks like i'm gonna be super busy with studying, clinicals, and class and won't have any extra time to study for other classes. it added time to the expected 2 year completion time, but i know it was the right decision for me.

gamomstudent I'm trying to reach you to talk with you about nursing. I'm waiting for a letter from middle georgia college and I wanted to know which route did you take back then. I see this post is old.
