MICU to SICU..advice?

Hello everyone!

I've been an RN in MICU almost 2 years now, and currently have my apps in for CRNA school. I have started applying for a new job, hubby and I are moving back across the state. I have been applying for SICU jobs. Any words of wisdom for a Medical ICU RN changing over to SICU? I realize the focus can be much different, and the personality type seems a little different, can't explain how, but it does seem slightly different from MICU.

Any books or resources I should use?

Thanks so much!

Hi there,

Moving to SI will be different in getting to know the surgeries, the people and the docs. You will have to change your thinking to the immediate post op complications. But, you have been an MI nurse for 2 yrs now? Once the immediate post op period is over, the pts for the most part will be like your MI patients.

I work in a unit that is CCU/MICU. But I do overtime shifts in SICU. To me, other than the immediate post op, they are no different. The docs......... you will have to get to know them and know how they do things, and how things are done differently in that unit.

I have no doubt that you will do fine. Congrats on the job and good luck!
