Microbiology hours

World International

Published

Hi everyone,

This is my first post here and I am in desperate need of help. I want to sit my NCLEX RN but the state I'm applying to are refusing to give me the ATT as I'm 16 hours short of microbiology.

The state suggest I apply and do a online course with a accredited American college for microbiology but I don't know where to start, can anyone recommend a stand alone online microbiology course I can do online. I'm hoping to have the course done in 8 weeks of less

Your help is greatly appreciated! Thanks

hey there nurseerie,

if i may ask what state are you applying for your nclex? this is the first time I heard of this requirement. The latest I've heard is a physical assessment course requirement and it's from Nevada.

I'm applying from Ireland to the state of Vermont, I only applies to me because I am 16 hours short if microbiology, so don't worry it shouldn't apply to American nurses

I'm an international graduate myself from the Philippines. I really hope that you will be able to apply in Vermont. I'm pretty sure there are online courses for microbiology.

Can I ask when you got your nclex what kind of visa do you get? I think Phoenix do a online course

I'm still processing my papers processed through CGFNS. It's taking quite a while. I'm a US citizen but I went to the Philippines for college due to financial reasons. The down side is that a lot of states are now requiring additional requirements to meet the state's standards. I really do hope that you find an online course soon.

It now takes a valid SSN to apply into VT and that can only be obtained while you're actually in the States, VT just changed that SSN requirement only a month or so ago.

If you don't have a SSN for now, you can try going thru NY, they don't require a SSN (yet), but you'll not be able to endorse (transfer) the RN license to any other state needing a SSN to start work or even apply, until you can provide the BON with your SSN.

It's best to figure out what permanent state you prefer to work and practice in, as another stumbling block is trying to endorse your license over to that desired state, as you'll have to meet that state's particular requirements, every state has its particular requirements.

At least, it sounds like you're not facing the concurrency problems many others here are having to get their ATT, like in CA and several other 12 states.

Hi steppyby,

I'm very fortunate that I managed to get into Vermont prior to them requiring a ssn. Vermont won't give me a ATT until I complete a extra 16 microbiology hours because my university hours are short, and unfortunately the education system in Ireland is alot different to the US so my only option is to complete a Online microbiology course with a American university. I have found one in Phoenix for $1850 for a 5 week 3 credit course so I'm hoping this course will be valid and approved by Cgfns so Vermont grant me a ATT.

Eventually I hope to move to California as my boyfriends family live there ( he is American) so would be nice to have family close.

Kiyafern,

Cgfns took a while when I applied to them first, it's a long process but hopefully it will all turn out good for you. It's a long painful road but hopefully it will all work out in the end. I registered in Ireland, worked in uk, Ireland and Australia and never had to complete any extra exams or courses. America is a tricky one, hopefully we get the nclex.

Okay, that's some good news! But check out if VT will issue you the actual license in your hand without having the SSN. I mean you can pass the NCLEX, but the VT BON will not give you the license to practice until then. It's the same thing with the state of NM. You can apply, pass, but not issued the license.

With that Phoenix course, did you verify with both of them (CGFNS & VT BON), it will be accepted befoe spending that kind of money and time. I would get in writing via e-mail.

If you're going to CA, do you know of others coming from your country that actually passed the CA BON requirements? CA has become very tough for a lot of international students/nurses, even with the endorsement process.

Not only that but CA is facing a near 50% unemployment rate of their local new grads, per their nursing BON survey. Maybe things will change by the time you're in the States.

Hi, I have also been told I am short in hours in microbiology and humanities. Have you had any luck in getting a course??
