Micro question

Can someone please help me with these type of problems? Thanks!

Given that the head of a pin is approximately 1.0 mm in diameter, how many of the following will fit, end to end in a line, across the head of a pin?

Organismsize number on pin

Streptococcus = 1000 nanometers in length

Escherichia coli = 2 micrometers in length

Amoeba proteus= 100 micrometers in length

Saccharomyces= 15 micrometers in diameter

Rhinovirus= 30 nanometers in diameter

Penicillium spore= 3 micrometers in diameter

Epulopiscium fishelsoni= 500 micrometers in length

these are conversion problems.

ie. strep = 1000 nm

1 nm =.000001 mm

1000 x (.000001) = .001mm

so if strep = .001 nm and you want to find out how many fit in 1 mm...

.001x= 1

x = 100

make sense?

Got it! Thanks.

Do you know how many micrometers = 1 meter?

at http://www.convert-me.com/en/ convert me.com you can verify your answers. you can also get conversion charts by clicking on any of the individual terms of measurement, such as nanometer. this will link you into the converter for length. http://www.convert-me.com/en/convert/length

the answer to your question can by found by clicking on micrometer, or micron.

Thanks! This is extremely helpful.
