Micro and clinicals?

Nursing Students General Students

Hey guys, I was wondering if I could get your opinion on this. I was accepted into the clinical program for fall 01. The only problem is that i haven't taken micro yet. My counselor advised that i could take it along with my clinicals or I could delay a semester while I take micro. I opted to sign up for the whole shabang. I am a strong student and and a quick learner, but I am wondering if I am going to be lost without micro the first semester? I'd appreciate any opinions on this.

Thanks!

I took Micro the year before I was accepted into my nursing program. My micro class was pretty in-depth and while it was interesting and a good foundation I don't feel I would have been lost without it. Some of the pertinent material was covered in A&P (immunity for instance). Also, most of the nursing texts and often the lectures will give you a review of what's important. Just do your reading, look up anything you are confused about and ask questions. By the way, CONGRATULATIONS!! Nursing school is very challenging but SO WORTH IT. One piece of unsolicited advice: Put your best effort in from the start. I did and by the the last year (when all your learning begins to overlap) I had a very good grasp of it all while some of my friends (who tended to slack the first year) had to really bust their biscuits. Take Care and good luck!

Micro is important. Mostly to learn about the different bacteria that makes a person ill, how it spreads, and info like that.

however, not having it will really not hold you back in clinicals. I think you did the right thing by signing up for both at the same time. I took Micro sophmore year, before clinicals really started, but i dont think it would have made a difference. The only problem that might happen is that Micro requires a lot of memorization, and the tests can be hard! Make sure to study a lot, and start off going hard, once you get the basics, the rest is a little easier to understand.

Good Luck!

I start my first semester of clinicals in August but I've decided to put off Micro until either Spring or Summer semester of next year. Also this is the first quarter they're offering Micro online so I'm going to check into what that involves. We have to have it by the start of our second year (ADN) so I actually think Summer of next year would be the best time.

peds,

I'm curious, I've never heard of micro-online. How can they do that?

Thanks a lot you guys! I know it is going to be hard work, but it will be worth it. I am not as nervous now. I already have my micro book and I started looking over the first chapter, so hopefully that will help. I've read so many posts about clinicals and how rough they are, I just didn't want to make it any harder than need be!

Thanks

Kourtney
