Michigan NPs?

Published

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this forum and considering NP as a career choice. I am hoping to gather some info from any michigan area NP's out there. I just started researching the NP field and neighboring NP programs in the area. I would greatly appreciate info on the current job market, salary and clinical specialty areas(cardiac, neuro, ortho) of practice for NP's? Also, any info./feedback on any NP programs in the Metro Detroit area appreciated.

Thanks

hello there. michigan np here. i am not in the market for a new job so i am not up to date on who and where are hiring at this point. however, i think there is a decent amount of openings for np's in the area depending on where your interest lies. acute care positions are usually posted in hospital websites. i've seen job openings here and there in pretty much all the major health systems in metro detroit including henry ford health system, beaumont, and st. john health. there are also job openings in private practice and one way to find them is through the michigan council of nurse practitioners' website or www.micnp.org. the job openings there are categorized by geographical areas and a password is not required to access the information. salary is variable depending on location. just like anywhere else, new np's generally get paid at a lower starting rate which is around 75k a year. be careful of some places that offer high salaries for new hires as i've heard of one place like this and the job was intolerable to say the least.

most if not all of the nursing schools in metro detroit have an np program or two. university of michigan and wayne state university have the most variety in np programs to choose from. university of detroit-mercy and oakland university both have fnp. madonna university also has a few np programs.
