MICHIGAN MIDWIFERY - U of M or Wayne State?

Published

Hello, I'm finishing my BSN this September, and I want to get right into Midwifery. I know of two programs in the state: Wayne state and University of Michigan. Here are the specs I currently have (For those interested):

Wayne State:

Part Time AND full time.

46 credit hours

Cost per = $1000

Total: $46,000

Accept 3x a year

Minimum of 2.9 GPA

University of Michigan Ann Arbor

Only Part Time

47 Credit Hours

Cost Per = $1,472 first + $1,110 additional

6x $1,472 = $8,832

41x $1,110 = $45,510

Total: $54,342

Only accept in the fall

GPA standard is higher:

Anything lower than a 3.29 (I think) needs to take a GRE exam.

Neither require any experience as an L&D nurse, just have to have a BSN. These are just guesses as far as cost is concerned. But, what I really want to know is if there is anyone who has compared the two like I have and which school did you choose and why? Thanks so much!

Specializes in ICU, LTACH, Internal Medicine.

One rule of thumb applicable to this and many other life situations:

-would you like to associate for at least a couple of years with people who apparently are not studious and smart enough to satisfy a HISTORICALLY MINIMAL acceprable (criteria) and also receive instructions from those who level their teaching to that sort of students?

GPA below 3.0 is not generally viewed as "acceptable" for almost anything; if Wayne state thinks that it is OK to accept substandard students and "adapt" program for their substandard academic abilities (this institution is quite famous for doing so for many undergrad programs), then.... well, I hope you got my point. If you want to become one of the best, go where better and the best go, not where it is cheaper.

P.S. schools may post whatever they like reg. experience requirements because they still get $50 or so non-refundable application fee from every hopeful one. I bet that both school's internal criteria include related experience, especially Wayne. A person who are academically weak AND has no experience in the field in L&D unit of such a place as Hutzel's Women (one of the highest risk place by all and any standard) is a bomb with clock ticking. Not even mentioning unacceptable risk of hiring a CNM without related experience save one from clinicals.
