Miami Nursing Schools.. Help

Hi, I've just been accepted into FIU's nursing program for this Fall. I don't think it was hard to get into. As long as you completed all your pre-reqs, especially the science ones, before you apply and have at least a 3.00 you should get in. I had a 3.01 and I got in! :) If you apply and are eligible they will send you a letter saying that you are being "considered." Then they have a list of requirements that you need to fullfil. They are:

CPR certification

That you passed the NET exam

All your immunizations

Proof of health and accident insurance

Purchase of uniforms

Within a week of fulfiling these requirements I got a letter saying I was in and telling me about orientation and the NSNA.

If you do all this you should get in. I just had that orientation last week and they said that they had around 170 applicants for only 70 spaces. I think that a lot of people can't complete all those seconardy requirments, since it's a bit time consuming and costs a lot of money.

By the way, I also applied to Barry for Spring while I was completing the last of my pre-reqs and I got in no problem. I decided not to go and wait for FIU because Barry is way to expensive for me and I am not eligible for financial aid.

NOVA's nursing program is rather new so I don't know much about them or their NCLEX pass rates. Only thing I know about UM is that their super expensive and do their clinicals at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Since you have so many private schools on your list I suppose you can afford it, how lucky! I'm envious! :chuckle

P.S. Don't forget that FAU also has a nursing program. I think they are public.

I will be graduating in dec with my BS in health science and i decided to go back to school for nursing. I plan to apply to FIU, NOVA, U of M, and BARRY. Is anyone currently going to any one of these schools or have graduated from any one? And if so could you tell me how hard it is to get in. I plan to hopefully start in spring. Also, if you were placed on a waiting list how long were you on before you got accepted. :uhoh21:

Oh My God, I can't believe there are nursing schools that accept people with 3.0 GPA! It is so hard to get into program in Tampa area, USF getting 400-500 applications twice a year for 60 slots and cut-off GPA for the last time was 3.5.

The NET exam is the nursing entrance test that some schools require you to take before acceptance. It covers reading, reading speed, basic math, and asks you questions about yourself. I am taking it on November 13.

Well I go to Barry and if you can afford it or qualify for aid I would consider it (I don't because I have a finance degree from FIU). It has an excellent reputation and incredible faculty. It is a family. I know that this year they had 450 applicants and 120 spaces so good luck.

I think a lot of nursing schools in the area do. At FIU we had one there for Fundamentals. Also, UM goes there (obviously)

What other hospitals does Barry do clinicals at? I'm wondering how many other schools I might get to see once I start at my clinical in Oct. :)

bet0326, so if you already have a degree, financial aid won't give you anymore aid? I hope so because i will be graduating with my 1st BS in health science at FIU. Financial aid stop giving me money for the past year because i have too much credits. I'm hoping that if you go back to school for something else they'll help.
