I don't think it's fair to say that BI is a better hospital, especially if you haven't actually worked at both places. MGH is a great hospital with friendly staff and good benefits as well. Of course, some units are more laid back than others, but that's how it is everywhere. (Sometimes HR can be tough to deal with if you aren't an employee, but if you can get past HR... )
Sweettreat521, not sure where you work now but MGH is non-union which is why the pay isn't as high as other hospitals in Boston, but there are no union dues and the shift differentials are good. In general, the turn over and vacancy rates for nurses at MGH is really low which has to mean something!
I think it's fair to say BIDMC is better because I was expressing my opinion. It was my experience working with the nurses and doctors on several floors in each hospital. And I've talked with people that have worked at both hospitals. MGH is good, but in my opinion I had a better overall experience at BIDMC. This doesn't mean I wouldn't ever work at MGH (it has been moved down to my second choice because I still think highly of them), I'm just saying if your looking into staying at one place for awhile you should check out the other major hospitals as well.

I am an experienced RN/BSN with 6+ yrs experience in a Boston hospital. I just got offered a job at MGH for approx $35/hr whch seems low for my experience level and compared to what I make now. Hours are better and it seems like a great place to work. Any opinions?
