Mercy University ABSN Summer 2025

Published

Hello future fellow RNs!

I recently applied to Mercy Univeristy ABSN program in the Bronx for the Summer 2025 semester start. I'm looking forward to hearing that I got in (speaking into existence) and thought to ease my nerves in the meantime, I'd start this forum to connect with other applicants, potential cohorts, and those currently in the program!

For those currently in the program, can you share your experience so far? How do you like it? Are you receiving support? What is your experience like managing the workload?

A bit about me:

My undergrad GPA was terrible (2.5, my grades went down at the pandemic hit and I barely graduated). I have taken classes since and brought my overall up to 2.73. my cumulative prerequisite GPA for the program is 3.8. I have years of experience in a variety of direct/healthcare (DSP, Phlebotomy, Care management) as well as a manager who is a nurse that provided a strong LOR. Although I feel a bit nervous about the waiting process, I have a lot of optimism in my experience, LOR, and personal statement. Im in my later 20's now and I feel much more prepared to embody what it takes so excell in nursing school than I did in my early 20's so I'm really looking forward to this next chapter.

Let's stay in touch!

hi!  can anyone please share in what sequence they took the prerequisites and has anyone taken clases with University of Phoenix?

Thank you!

Hi!

Yes, I took classes with University of Phoenix! I was advised that they accept their courses. I hope this helps

Thank you for your quick response!  Do you mind sharing which nursing prerequisites you took at University of phoenix.  I am trying to map them out!

You're welcome! The only two courses that I needed were chemistry and Microbiology. So those were the ones that I took.

Did anyone take the prerequisites at Mercy?

In regards to prerequisites.  Did anyone take them at mercy.  I seem to run into a pickle in the sense that my prerequisites have prerequisites.   Did you Al experience this?  Any tips?

I took most of my prerequisites here at Mercy. I had a couple of issues in completing them because I would find out last minute that I needed other prerequisites after the fact. It was very annoying, but I eventually got it done. My suggestion is just to be on top of the advisors to ensure everything is squared away.

Do you remeber which prequisite you took first? Or prereq for the prereq?

I took A&P 1 first. and the prerequisite for A&P 1 is Algebra. I do not recommend taking it online because it's more challenging if you are not good at math. Usually other schools require you to take a math course as a prereq. I had statistics but Mercy did not accept that, so I had to take algebra. I took Chemistry at my previous college, but at Mercy, if you take it there, you have to take the lecture with the lab. I was a psych major so my psych prerequisites were covered through my psych core classes. A&P 2 is the prereq for Microbiology, I believe. You have to complete everything else before you can take Microbiology. this class also comes with a lab component as well. I hope this helps.

Has anybody registered for the Summer semester yet?
