Hi everyone! I am writing this in hopes to connect with any past graduates or potential August 2016 cohort candidates of Mercy Hospital's College of Nursing LPN to RN program. I am curious to know if any graduates were able to obtain their BSNs from other schools without experiencing difficulties and I also want to know how many of you will actually be making a concentrated effort to pay that $2,000 acceptance fee to attend in August?
The reason I am asking this is because I was interested in the May 2016 cohort and attended an information session in August 2015. During that information session the department chair explained that Mercy was not ACEN accredited but that an ACEN official was scheduled to visit in Feburary of 2016 and that as long as the ACEN visit occurred while you were in the middle of attending classes at the school and if that visit, subsequently, resulted in accreditation that your degree would be covered. Well-- when I was offered a seat in the program for the May 2016 cohort, I immediately asked if the ACEN visit happened yet-- I was given some crappy excuse that basically meant that, for what ever reason, the visit in February 2016 ended up with the school NOT receiving the ACEN accreditation. With that in mind, I declined the seat but kept my application active because, supposedly, the school would be getting revisited in September of 2016.
Now, it's August 2016 and I have, once again, been offered a seat and I have been trying to remain positive but it is so difficult because I don't know exactly what is going on and it scares me to pieces to pay $2,000 non-refundable, upfront out of pocket and then another $6,000 completely out of pocket for a degree that may only take me as far as becoming an RN and nothing more.
Any thoughts from anyone who has previously graduated from the program, anyone currently attending the program or anyone who is also considering attending would be most welcome.
