Mercy General Sacramento - anyone know it?

Specialties Ob/Gyn

I am a midwife from the UK looking to work in labor and delivery in California. I have a telephone interview on 20th Dec for position in Mercy General Hospital in Sacramento. Anyone worked there or know about it? Would really appreciate any info on the hospital or Sacramento area generally. Thanks :)

Specializes in NICU.

I drive through Sacramento regularly, don't know a whole lot about it. It's the State Capital, I see lots of new construction, housing, shopping centers, etc. I try not to drive through during rush hour, when traffic goes from 70mph to zero. Luckily, as a nurse, you work odd hours. Probably 12 hour shifts, that would be best for you, anyway, as you would have time off to do sight-seeing. You will be a couple of hours from Tahoe, San Francisco, Yosemite. Useful to have a car, but there is train service to SF and Reno.

Good luck!

No I didnt take the job actually. I really want to be nearer to the ocean and wasnt sure if Sacramento was for me. What area did you work in and what was the hospital like out of interest?

I actually was the manager in postpartum and special care nursery for about 4 years, and I worked in labor and delivery too. Thye hospital is pretty large and does about 250 deliveries/month, as I remember, mostly known for its cardiac program, it is in the midtown high-end residential area of Sacramento, a pretty nice location. We in Sacramento are about 1.5 hours from the beach (SF) and 1.5 hours from the beach at Tahoe, we are actually in a great little spot here in the valley! :p

Thanks for the information - I hope I have not been too hasty turning the job down!
