mental health nurses whose children ( young adults ) have schizophrenia

Published

Hi , I have been a mental health nurse for > twenty years. My son was diagnosed with schizophrenia and was actually admitted to the same psych unit where I worked. I was wondering if there are any others like me out there? :nurse: Love to trade stories.

Hi,

My son (15 yrs) was treated for depression/attempted suicide but I am not a mental health nurse so he wasn't admitted to my unit. I was an OR manager at the time, which some might consider to be full of people with personality disorders anyway!

I can't imagine what it would have been like for you and your family in this situation and I wish you all the very best in this very stressful time.

Three years later my son is well, working as an apprentice and totally loving life!

Hi , It must have been a very difficult time for you . Thank you for your words of wisdom. Please pass on my message to anyone you know . I am really looking at connecting with others who have been in the same situation . debi:bow:

Hi Debi,

off the top off my head, i know no- one but i will get back to you asap.

After having depression at work two years and hiding it but wanting people to realise it/ at the same time, i want to help bring it in the open, and think that support from our colleagues is vital.

Mental health nurses are valued. My best friend has bi- polar and is a nurse if that is any help.

Its hard when your personal live and work libe are the same, and you have to be a nurse and a relative,

Best wishes for your family.
