Hi there all you mental health nurses,

I am working as a nurse educator in mental health in Australia, but am Canadian.

I have an adult son who has been diagnosed with schizophrenia and I was wondering if there are any mental health nurses out there with the same " lived experience". Actually I know that statistically speaking you are out there. I would like to be able to connect with you or anyone who knows someone.... Looking forward to hearing from you. Debi

I just happen to be on allnurses.com today. But yes, I am a psych nurse and my son has bipolar. It is one of the things that got me interested in psych. I love my job.

Thanks for reading my post. I love my job too and I think that I am a better mental health nurse because of my experience. We know how we would like our children to be treated by health care providers and we also know how family members want to be treated. Please pass on my information to other nurses. I really think that we can change the system from within. Thanks again for sharing. Debi
