I'm currently searching online accredited NP schools for mental health. I hold a BS not a BSN and do not wish to spend additional money on the BSN. I currently practice as an RN.

Any recommendations would be great:)

I thought the natural progression is (I am assuming you have an ASN?) ASN->BSN->MSN... I don't think you can skip the BSN if you wanna be an NP, the entry to practice is a masters. And you should get the DNP anyway.

But as a cautionary, you should avoid the online school if possible. Having a hybrid/campus program are generally better, since they usually have clinical affiliations and professors you will be able to talk reach easily. The worst semester we have had (even tho I am at a hybrid school) was one where we didn't have clinical sites and had to do our own leg work to find people to train us.

Kristy,

I don’t know about online and not sure where you are located but there is a Cal State program that will consider RN with BS in other discipline. I believe it is cal state Fullerton but I could be wrong about that, may be Long Beach or San Marcos, either way it’s on of the cal state in Southern California. Regardless, if there is one there are probably more! I am in the same boat, not looking for a BSN, BS in psychology, mental health RN as of current, looking to advance PMHNP.
good luck!
