Men In Nursing Issues

Published

I need your input! I am in a debate in nursing school. The topic is "Men in Nursing." (I'm on the "pro" side of the debate). If any of you have ever had an experience with a male nurse, or you are one, please, send me your thoughts on the care, how you felt when receiving the care, the possible stereotypical feelings you had, what this nurse contributed overall that surprised you, and ultimately, how this affected you in the end. ALL the feedback I can get would be so greatly appreciated! Thank you!!

According to me, men also can take up nursing as a career. There are institutes that promote nursing courses for both men and women. There are many jobs that can be taken up by men too. This shows us that there is equal need of male as well as female nurses. The thing that matters the most is from which institute you complete your course. You should opt for good and reputed institution that are well registered. It is you who has to first find all the details of where you are planning to do the course from.

I think for the next debate you should suggest -

The pros and cons of women with children working as nurses or

Should homosexuals (male or female) be allowed to work as nurses.

Yes I am being sarcastic. But trying to make the point thatdebating these subjects are just as ludicrous as debating pros and cons of men in nursing. Perpetuates ignorant, backwards stereotypes.

Actually I rarely participate in this forum because that it pretty much what it is about.

Gender doesn't really matter except maybe in OB

The local hospital in my home town has several male nurses in OB. In fact, the most requested nurse in that department is a guy. You are perpetuating stereotypes yourself.

Please explain to me why you think gender 'really matters' in OB?

I was doing a report for a class I was in. I had no preference whatsoever. I just needed feedback, not ridicule! Everyone please lighten up!

Very hard having men in nursing. Take a look at how many rape charges and lawsuits involving male nurses and aids in hospitals. Men are men first and neutral gender does not apply. Tell me how a 19 year old woman would feel having a male nurse give her an enema. The same applies to men, how do you think a man would feel having a male give him an barium enema.
