Memphis New Grad Jobs

U.S.A. Tennessee

Published

Hi all! I am due to graduate with my ADN in May and have read about how hard it is to find jobs. I was curious about how things are in Memphis specifically. Are new grads finding jobs here or is it as bad as they say it is?

I just graduated 12/10. There are fewer jobs now than there was earlier this year. But, also many of my classmates have not found jobs because they are being specific about where they want to work (ICU, CCU, L&D, etc). In this economy, new grads really can't afford to be too particular. You may have a specialty area that is your passion, but if you are open to experiencing all areas of nursing in the beginning, then you won't have a problem finding a job. Also if you're open to caring for various economic classes then you will have more options.

Any advice on where to apply for a new BSN grad? I've taken NCLEX and I have my license and haven't had much luck looking for a job in Memphis!

I recently moved here and looked for a job for about 6 months. After a lot of searching and pounding the pavement I got several offers, and just accepted one. I posted my resume on Yahoo! Hotjobs, and I found a lot of listings there. I know that St. Francis offers a new grad residency in several clinical areas that is only open to BSN candidates. There is an application process for the residency and I am not sure what openings are left, so I would contact a recruiter there. I was also told by a recruiter that currently they (St. Francis) are only accepting BSN for nurses with no prior experience. Baptist has a lot of openings too, many of which state that a BSN is preferred, so you may have a leg up there. They also have a residency that all new nurses go through upon hire, no matter what clinical area you work in. Hope this helps. Good Luck in your search!

Thank you! I talked to a recruiter at St. Francis and they aren't hiring any new grads without experience, and the new grad residency for BSNs starts in August...ugh! I've applied at Baptist so hopefully I'll hear back soon! I'll look on Yahoo and Hot Jobs as well. Thanks and good luck to you too!
