MedSurg to Level II Nursery

Specialties NICU

Published

Hi all !! I have been a MedSurg- Tele nurse for about 1 year and a half. I love the hospital I work for but It has been my dream to work with babies since I started nursing school. I have an interview for the nursery at my hospital on Monday! I have been studying Mernstein & Gardiners Neonatal Intensive Care book. I’ve mostly been reading about newborn assessment, reflexes and vital signs.
I’m really hoping to land this job! I want to do everything I can to answer scenario clinical questions to the best of my ability.

Any tips for the interview?
Tips for the different equipment a NICU/Nursery nurse uses on a daily basis?
Also, the neonates vital signs differ from book to book. What would you say are the normal baby vital signs?

Thank you all so much !!

Specializes in NICU.

Gomella is a very good book, but the standard is critical care manual.

Go over what the notch is on the arterial line means on the screen,iv line patentcy, feeding for full term, premie,LGA,SGA.

The parameters u use on the monitors according to mfg are your general vs and they vary by age at birth, age from birth,...you do alot of teaching in a nicu,do go over what is most important for new mother,or gravid 14 mother.

zgood luck, let us know .how you made it.
