Hello!

Can someone check to see if my answer if correct for this pediatric calculation

Prescription reads: Tobramycin 15mg IV q6h

The child weighs 10kg

The safe dose ranges are: 6-7.5mg/kg/day

What is the low range dose?

What is the high range dose?

The answer I got was 60mL for the low dose and 75mL for the high dose. Is this correct?

Thanks in advance! :)

How did you get ml as your answer and also your answer is per day, instead of q6h to check whether they are safe. Lastly are you sure, you know what you are doing

loveofrn- I didn't mean to type mL, that was a mistake. I wasn't too sure if I had did the problem correct, that is the whole reason I posted on here....

So what is the range for the safe dose?

15MG-18.75MG

Well yes I guess we were looking at daily dose.60 -75 per day. The range is stated as per day so I would express the answer as the per day range.

Agree w/ above poster. Range per day would be 60 to 75 mg for a 10 kg child.

Good day,

10 kg x 6 mg/kg/day = 60 mg/kg/day

10 kg x 7.5 mg/kg/day = 75 mg/kg/day

15 mg x (24 / 6) = 60 mg would have the prescription within the safe range (at floor of dosage).

Thank you.
