Feb 20, 201016 yr I have been having a problem figuring this out, so any input is greatly appreciated!1. Recommended dosage: 200 - 300 mg/kg/day divided into 4-6 doses Patient weight: 175 lbsCalculate the recommended dosage range for 24 hr for a 175 lb patient.- I am at a total loss on how to set this problem up! I am just not sure about what they are asking!2. Drop factor: 10 gtt/mL Infusion rate: 28 gtt/min Infusion time: 8 hoursWhat is the total fluid volume infused?- I got 1344 mL, but am not sure.PLEASE HELP!! Thanks in advance :)!
Feb 20, 201016 yr Author BTW, this is NOT HOMEWORK! These are questions that were on a quiz that I have already TURNED IN! I was stuck on these two problems for a while and am trying to make sure I did them right :)!
Feb 20, 201016 yr i get the same # in the second ex.in the first one, you want mg/Kg/per dayso you need to convert the weight into kilograms from pounds....and multiply for the two end points of the range...
Feb 20, 201016 yr 1. recommended dosage: 200 - 300 mg/kg/day divided into 4-6 doses patient weight: 175 lbscalculate the recommended dosage range for 24 hr for a 175 lb patient.forget that this is math and just think logically- the dosage for one day is an amount based on the pt's weight. your 175lb pt is about 79.5 kg (175lbs/2.2 lbs in a kg= 79.5kg). in one day, s/he should have 200-300mg for every kg they weigh. 200*79.5= 15900mg/day300*79.5= 23850mg/dayso the range would be 15900-23850mg/day divided into 4-6 doses.2. drop factor: 10 gtt/ml infusion rate: 28 gtt/min infusion time: 8 hourswhat is the total fluid volume infused?- i got 1344 ml, but am not sure.10 drops make one ml, 28 drops/min... that equals 2.8ml/minthere are 480 mins in 8 hrs and they're getting 2.8ml every minute. 480mins*2.8ml per minute= 1344ml.
Feb 21, 201016 yr Author Thanks you guys I was nervous for a minute there. I was afraid I took too long answering these questions and somehow screwed them up for the first one I used dimensional analysis and got nervous when I saw those high numbers!200 mg/kg/day x 175 lbs X 1 kg/2.2 lbs = 15,909.09 or 15909 mg/day300 mg/kg/day x 175 lbs x 1 kg/2.2 lbs = 23,863.64 or 23,864 mg/day15,909 -23,864 mg/day divided into 4-6 doses...would this be acceptable as an answer?

1. Recommended dosage: 200 - 300 mg/kg/day divided into 4-6 doses
Patient weight: 175 lbs
Calculate the recommended dosage range for 24 hr for a 175 lb patient.
- I am at a total loss on how to set this problem up! I am just not sure about what they are asking!
2. Drop factor: 10 gtt/mL
Infusion rate: 28 gtt/min
Infusion time: 8 hours
What is the total fluid volume infused?
- I got 1344 mL, but am not sure.
PLEASE HELP!! Thanks in advance :)!
