I have been working on a med surg floor since November 2011. This is my first hospital job after working in home care (yuck) for a few years. Needless to say, I was very excited to get the job. I work .75 to .8 now.

I was called yesterday to schedule a phone interview for a job I applied for long ago in what would be my DREAM specialty. The "new" job is "the job" that I dreamt about when I thought about becoming a nurse. It is a .5 and I would have to start fresh at a new hospital and leave the one that spent the time to train me. I cannot decide what to do. Do I go for the dream job in hopes of picking up enough shifts to reach a .7 to .8? Do I quit the job I was so excited to get and nevermind the time and energy spent to train me?

What to do?!?!?!

I'd start by scheduling the phone interview and see where it goes from there. You may find after talking with them that you'll be content right where you are and are already living the dream!! I wouldn't hand in your resignation quite yet!

Colleen that's what I was gonna say. Do a share day and see if you really like it before you cut the cord. You haven't even done the interview yet, slow down.

Goodluck!

I agree with ColleenRN2B....take the phone interview and see what happens. Sometimes the grass isn't always greener on the other side and you come to find out that the bugs are eating the grass there too!

In today's economy, yes even in Nursing, jobs are not as abundant as they were. Changing jobs with the hopes of making up the difference from .5 to .7 don't count on it! If you can make it on the .5 and this really is your "dream" job, then after you make it through the phone interview, go on the real interview very prepared with very specific questions. Make an educated move.

Good Luck
