Med/surg is a great way to get basic hospital experience, and may be a slightly less competitive field to get into. You may be able to branch out from that experience by cross-training to a different department or even just having it on your resume. Never a dull moment on a med/surg floor.

I feel like I am in a pickle career wise. I have my BSN and have years of dialysis experience but no hospital experience. There are other fields that I would like to work in such as pediatrics, an outpatient surgery center or labor and delivery but I keep getting rejection after rejection. I am thinking that I may need to work in a hospital setting for at least a year to be able to get out of dialysis. What is the best setting that I should go for? Med surg, ICU or a specialty hospital? Thank you for your input.
