Does anyone know the penalty for late submission of tracking forms?

[i don't have any idea - you could probably call the state MDS person but then that might raise a red flag with them and put you into survey! Do you have a consultant you could call? How late is it? It's a good question and I have never really thought about it and I have been doing MDSs for over 5 years. Hmmmm.

Guess that depends on how late. I'm assuming you mean discharge and re-entry tracking forms....I missed submitted a batch of forms and MDSs and didnt catch it for almost 2 months. The state MDS nurse didnt seem to care that the submission was late, just that the MDSs were done on time.
You might also get an out of sequence error message, and if this kind of thing happens a lot someone will probably notice at State.
But not submitting them at all will probably cause problems.
:imbar Yes, I am speaking of discharge tracking forms. I took over in a facility where there were absolutely no systems in place because everyone was new and had received no orientation. Total mgmt overhaul. It was hit and miss for awhile on when pts came or went and I found 3 people on the qi report who were still active that I apparently never d/c'd. One died in September! The other 2 were d/c'd at the end of Oct. I just did them on the discovered day and submitted them at that time. As one of you said, I did not want to raise a red flag by calling help desk. We'll see what happens. I know some were missed in the last facility I worked in and nothing ever came of it. I was not in charge at the time, though and it will be my luck that they will see these. I did submit a few late quarterlies at the beginning of my stint here because the computer system was in transition and nothing ever came of that. I hate responsibility sometimes. I am so anal and organized that I am devastated about this. Thanks.

I don't think you will be fined monetarily for late submissions. However, if it is a widespread ongoing problem, state surveyors can give you a tag on it during your survey. I would write the problem up and take it to QA committee with a plan of correction just in case a surveyor asked about it.
