Have you actually read the definitions of bedmobility and transfers in the RAI? If you had I think you would find this pretty simple.

... yep I did.

I would say it is clear to code it under "Bed mobility", but English is not my native language. So I am not really sure what to understand under "moving to and from a lying position" while in bed.

Moving from lying to sitting is bed mobility. It is coded as transfers when they move between surfaces like bed to w/c. Bed mobility includes positioning in bed or other furniture. My apologies for those that are rudely answering you. We all have questions sometimes and shouldn't be discourage from asking them.

I do not feel I was being rude in any manner. I simply suggested reading the RAI manual. As you know, the MDS is a very detailed assessment with complex guidelines to ensure it is accurate. If an MDS coordinator is unable to read and understand the difference between bedmobility and transfer definitions it is scary to think of how accurate the entire assessment may be. You really disagree with this?

I find it odd throughout this entire board that if you are unwilling to just feed someone the answer without questioning it then you are considered rude.

I thought that this website was created for nurses looking for answers or clarification. I wouldn't want to assume that anything is "simple" especially with mds. Nursing is stressful enough and it's sad to see other nurses not supporting each other. I'm sure you've had questions before and someone was willing to help or "feed" you. I also don't assume that if someone is asking about bed mobility that they don't understand it. Mds is complicated and questions should be asked. I'm sorry if you can't understand that.

as I said English is not my native language and I live in a German speaking country with a official translated form of the MDS. There we code this point under "Transfer", so I wanted to make sure.

I often have to get help from English sources because the RAI is not really common in German speaking countries.

I thought "our" MDS has to be coded in the same way than "your" original.

My fault.

Now you've got me curious. Are you doing the MDS in Germany? I just "assumed" that this was only done in the US for our Medicare/Medicaid system.
