It has been awhile since the MDS Coordinators have posted their current salaries as of this year, 2015. I am curious to what the trends are now. I am a travel MDS nurse and I had the opportunity to speak with MDS coordinators across the country in my travels. I've polled a few MDS Coordinators I've met and these are the current salaries of those MDS Coordinators (and mine at my last full-time, perm position last year, 2014) and the city and state in which they live and the approximate number of years' experience they have.

Most are RN's, I think one of these may be an LPN. I've found some parts of the nation

Charlotte, NC $34/hr 5 yrs

Southern Kentucky $27/hr 7 yrs

Southwest Houston, TX $26 2 yrs

Michigan $28/hr 2 yrs

Western Kentucky $34/hr 9 yrs

Southern Indiana $28/hr 6 yrs

Please add yours to the list. If you want to contribute anonymously, send me an email to [email protected] and I'll be glad to post for you and leave out your name.

Maybe we can help each other and be better prepared to negotiate salary next time.

I don't have a nursing job as of yet buuuut this has always been a subject that interested me. I've heard most people don't negotiate salary for whatever reasons (for me it'd be because I avoid confrontation when possible haha) but that when people do actually do this, they get what they ask for... So my question is, is it appropriate to negotiate a salary as a new grad? I assume not. But what if, for example, one hospital in my city has a starting pay of $22/hr while the hospital I'm hiring at starts nurses at $20. Would it be appropriate to ask for more then?

As a LPN with 15 years experience with MDS 2.0 and 3.0 (I'm not certified) and have been out of the "MDS game" for about 2 years, my last salary was $20 per hour, which has been about the norm for me. However, I have an interview tomorrow afternoon for an MDS position at a skilled rehab/LTC home and was wondering if I should ask for more? I have been keeping up with the changes and updates to MDS 3.0 on the CMS website.

The average salary for a MDS Nurse who is a LPN in my state is around $23 per hour. For RNs it's around $26-$30 per hour.
