Does anyone have any information as to the experience and education required to apply for an MDS nurse position or staff development nurse position in a skilled facility or as a nurse consultant for an assisted living facility? I have been a Registered Nurse for 14 years, mostly geriatric and community health nursing experience. I recently graduated from a RN to BSN program in August 2011. I am a certified Assisted Living Nurse and a member of the American Assisted Living Nurse Association. I am waiting approval of my application and I will be taking the ANCC Case Management exam ASAP. I have 4 years experience as an independent contractor case management/care planning nurse for long term care insurance companies. I love what I am doing now, but would like more steady hours. My contract work goes through slow periods (like right now) and I am having to supplement my income by doing flu clinics during the months of September-November. It looks like this year I may only have enough flu clinics for the month of September because no clinics have been posted for October as of yet. I have three years experience teaching CNA-1 classes. I am working at publishing an article for Geriatric Nurse journal as well. So, I don't know if you would consider that research experience.
