MDC College Bridge/Transitional schedule

Published

Hello everyone. Could someone who is familiar with MDC let me know what the Bridge or Transitional program weekly schedule is like? I am trying to figure out if it's a Monday-Friday 7-5 schedule etc... Any information is appreciated. Thanks!

Are you PT,FT, or online?

I have not gotten into a program yet. I am applying for Fall 2012. I will be going FT or online.

OK. I was in the bridge online so I can give you info on that. With the online program all of your theory courses are taken online. You would log into Angel (MDC's Virtual Learning Portal) and retrieve your assignments. You submit your assignments online. You are required to go to the school to take some exams and quizzes.

As for Clinicals, most were scheduled on the weekends with the exception of Peds which was one day during the week and Psych which was 2 days during the week.

I was not in the full time (face to face) option so I don't have that much information about that schedule is structured, but I think that everything (theory and clinicals) are done throughout the week.

The Online option is great for individuals with full-time M-F type jobs. It was a good choice for me, but if I had the choice, I would have chosen a traditional face-to-face learning option.

Hope this helps. Good Luck to you in your future endeavors!

Thanks, I appreciate it. I will apply to both and go with whichever I can get into. Do you know if its still possible to apply for admission before having completed your Microbiology? This is the only course I am missing.

I am not sure about that. Please check the MDC website for that information. The guidelines changed recently.

I was told by multiple advisors that you must have all prerequisite classes complete by the application deadline date. This would mean that Spring 2012 is the latest semester in which you can finish prerequsites for a Fall 2012 entrance into Nursing, with a deadline of May 1. For a Spring 2013 entrance into Nursing, it would be Summer 2012, since the app deadline is September 1. Hope this helps!

That has definitely changed. I'll have to speak with an advisor ASAP! Thanks.

Hello,

I am new to this thread, but have been a reader of this forum for a while now. I have been scouring the forum in search of info regarding MDC transitional bridge for both part-time and full-time and have not been able to find the desired info.

My question is whether or not any of you are familiar with the LPN - RN Bridge schedules? Each time I speak with someone from advisement I'm given a different response (one would think that an adviser would be privy to this information). I was accepted for both the LPN to RN bridge for full-time (w/ face to face or online option) and part-time. I work full-time Mon-Fri. From 7a -3:30p (can't afford to quit) I have no idea as to which option to select because I can't seem to get a straight answer about the class schedules from the advisement.

In order to attend full time, I would probably have to go with the online option, but i'm not completely sure. I am also considering the part-time program, but that takes 2 years :( What's a regular schedule for the bridge full and part time? What time and day(s) would I be required to attend classes, labs, and clinicals. Any info provided would be much appreciated.

Hello and congrats on getting in ....I am in the online transitional program at

MDC, Semester 1 out of 3. I work fulltime, the

transitional online program gives you that flexibility of studying whenever

YOU can without having to drive to campus.

The workload is just as intense as the face to face program. You get weekly

reading assignments and chapter quizzes. Midterms are proctored so you have

to take them at a MDC campus. The clinical hours have to be done in

person...but they do offer Saturday clinical rotations...except for the

Psych rotation..it has to be done in the weekdays/mornings.

No regrets so far and glad that MDC has this program available.

Hope this helps....and for those that think it not possible...it is....just stay

motivated and it can be done.

Let me know if you need more info.

Thanks so much Hnic0522,

I really appreciate you taking time out of your busy schedule to answer my question. I went ahead and signed up for the bridge online option. Now I'm just waiting for orientation. I would like to get a jump start on reading, but I dont know where to start. Would you mind providing info regarding which classes I would be required to take during the 1st semester, also the required books for the 1st semester as well? I would be most appreciative. You mentioned that the tests are proctored, does this mean that I would have to make arrangements with the testing center for each proctored exam, or is it a scheduled event where everyone in my assigned group would have to show up to take the exams in a classroom? I ask only because I work full time days, and my employer is NOT very flexible when it comes to variations in my schedule.

My other concern with online is that you don't get the benefit of the lectures and the ability to ask on the spot questions when further clarication is needed. How do you know what to study in order to prepare for exams? Do you study everything, or are certain outlines provided for the exams? Do you feel that you are at a disadvantage in any way with the online option? Please advise.

Hi Carisma1101,

I've been accepted into MDC transitional for Fall 2012 online & face 2 face. I've been looking for some answers to help me decide on which would be best for me. I'm leaning towards online bcuz i need to work. Based on your last thread you decided to go with online. Can you give me any feedback on how it is going for you online? Do you having any regrets? Do the online instructors prepare you with notes/powerpoints/outlines for the midterm/exams/quizzes? Do they give you unnecessary busy work or postings on the discussion board? Do you feel at a disadvantage? Are you in your last semester?

I really would appreciate your advice I don't know anyone who's in online bridge right now.

Thanks.
