Hello. I am currently working on a project for grad school for my informatics class where we are comparing and evaluating two charting systems in a setting. We chose home healthcare and are evaluating Mckesson Horizon homecare system and one other. Does anyone have experience using this system and have a guesstimate/idea of how much the system costs? Do you like the system? Is it easy to work with for charting and patient care? Your help is much appreciated!

I have used the McKesson Horizon program a few years ago and really loved it. I found it very user friendly.
I have no idea how much it costs though.

There are things I liked about McKesson, I liked that I could communicate with other disciplines within the patient record. I liked that I could narrate a plan for next visit, in case I was not the RN visiting next. I did not like the med profiling...too time consuming and doesn't allow you to delete meds from previous episodes which are completely impertinent to current episode.

I think McKesson is a very powerful program when you unleash it full potential. I love being able to read IDT notes, sending communication notes within the program securely to other disciplines, insurance authorizaition. It saves phone calls, emails, and waiting for acknowlegement. Comprehensive assessments and routine visits are very complete. I will say it's a very mechanical, tedious program and staff may have difficulties completing OASIS-C requirements within a pt's. home along with all the other componants of the admission. May have to find creative ways to abreviate what you enter within the pt's. home in order to meet productivity requirements of agencies. I have used Mysis and McKesson in past. McKesson charting, though more mechanical, is much more thorough.

We use Horizon at our agency and for the most part it is user friendly. I like how you can send f/u notes to other clinicians (and tell if they've read them!), the non-clinical note section is helpful to for info that doesnt need to be in the formal chart such as:likes visits in the am, has 2 yippy dogs, etc. The wound addendum is okay, but can get confusing if the pt has multiple wounds, but our agency is working with McKesson to change that. Overall I'd say its great.

I've worked with Horizon at our agency for the past few years. We have current high quality laptops and our IT dept keeps things updated. My opinion -- while McKesson may cover the Medicare requirements well, the user interface continues to look like something from the early 90's. Unnecessarily cumbersome, time consuming, frustrating. The medications and orders processes are confusing and complex. The interface requires many, many more keystrokes and mouse moves than necessary. I do not understand why a big company like McKesson maintains this amateur user interface. Even with touch screens on our laptops, it is a real pain.
