MCI Student RN Program

Published

i need some advice from people who have completed all of the three prereq for the rn program at mci... if you have is it hard taking all three prereq's in one semester? based on the school and professors there? do they take you at fast pace?

help!

OH...sorry one more thing...What classes are in the cirriculum? Do you have to take a&p? Any eng, soc, ect...Im just curious because I have taken all these and I am wondering if they transfer, and if that would lighten my load any. Thanks again!!!!

Hi,

To pay for the program I utilized Federal Aid including pell grants, scholarships, and a private student loan to cover the rest.

As far as the program goes, you take a&p 1, 2, micro, sociology, eng 1, 2, psy etc. Some classes transfer and others dont! I had a&p 1 and 2 and even took them at MCI a few years ago and they didnt transfer because the a&p classes they have for the nursing program is tailored to the RN program...so it may be possible to transfer it in but not highly likely...but give it a shot! I transferred in 3 classes so basically I will only have a few (three) 5 weeks (5 weeks is the length of their classes) where I will have a full load which consist of two classes, all the rest will be only one class...which I like because that way I can focus on just one subject.

Hope that helps!

Oh and I dont have to pay back my loans until after I graduate and then they give you a six month grace period before they kick in to repayment!

Thank you!!!! Thats a lot of good info! Im gonna check out there open house Sat.

Yeah- they qualify for all federal financial aid. I didn't qualify for the pell grant, but was able to take use the stafford loan and took out a private loan for some. I'm also anticipating scholarships. My husband (who already has his degree) is going to transfer his GI bill to me when that is available in August.

About tranferring classes, a lot of gen eds will transfer. I was able to transfer chemistry, english I&II, psych, and math. I have taken A&P, but was told that I could have taken it at Yale and they still wouldn't accept it. Any class you transfer in you don't have to pay for so that lightens the final price also.

Going to ODU for four years including books would be almost $30000, too. Here, I can take my RN test in only 15 months. It is a lot of money, but that's years sooner that I would be working and making money instead of still being in classes.

Have fun at orientation and don't be afraid to ask questions!

NachoMamma,

What branch is your spouse in. My spouse is coast guard and we want to transfer his over also in January and weren't sure who to contact.

Thanks

He's in the Navy. The transferring isn't effective until August 09 and I think it does require more commitment (mine plans on doing the full 20 already, so this is not a deal breaker for us). I think the rule is that you have to serve three years post-9/11 to be able to transfer and then you have to commit another 3 years if you do transfer. (That's what hubby says- but on the website it says that the rules for transferring haven't been decided yet).

Here's a link from the VA website http://www.gibill.va.gov/pamphlets/CH33/CH33_Pamphlet.pdf

Hope that helps!

I think you have to be very dedicated anywhere you are in NS. Good luck!

i am having to self pay, i did get the 1000.00 military scholarship, and alittle was left from fasfa since i was already maxed out there was alittle left since the governement increased the amounts, you can check with financial aid if you will have anything available, as i did not think i had. my monthly payments are 1700.00, it is alot but in the end it will be worth it! hope this helps.
