I was afraid to start ns because I heard how hard it was. I am half way through the 1500's and think it is pretty easy, mostly reading and common sense. I work part time too. I am kindof a loner in class and have a study group. Are the 1600's much different than this? If so, how? Thanks
Sorry, typo. I do not have a study grp. & now dont think it's necessary

Dare,
I am currently partway thru the 1600s, and I also did not participate in a study group during the 1500s. Things have definitely changed this time. Much like the 1500s, the two lecture classes work in concert with your clinical, but even more so this section. Every assessment and the pathophysiology that you are learning are the focus of your clinical for the week. It is a wonderful way of learning as far as I am concerned, but I am grateful to have classmates (friends ) to bounce things off of. Not only that, but the stress factor and being able to offload all of the frustrations makes a huge difference as well. I strongly encourage you to find at least one other person to work with.
I also encourage you to visit the Student Nurse section of this site and read as much advice from DAYTONITE as you can. I have gotten so much great test taking info and study advice from her.
Good luck and have a restful holiday :zzzzz

Thanks for the info. I do talk to a few people, so I'll try and sort through the complainers to find at least a study buddy. I heard the 1600's were pretty tough, but I also heard that for the 1520 test and thought that was a piece of cake. Hopefully it will stay that way:wink2:.

I know I'll sound like a pessimist...but it definitely won't stay that way! I'm almost done with Maternity and I know I've always appreciated any tips students ahead of me have passed along, even when it's intimidating, so I thought I'd do the same.
1600's was the most difficult for me and most of my classmates, so much info, studying for two different lecture tests...you just have to get through it. There's no way of truely being prepared for Med-Surg 1...so much is thrown at you so fast you can barely absorb it, and you just have to take it one day at a time. Psych was a vacation after that, the clinicals were very easy and the instructors were amazing. Med-Surg 2 wasn't that bad, things finally started to click and we actually seemed to finally retain info from previous classes, so we didn't even have to study as long or as hard as we did back in 1600/1700s. I'm loving Maternity, it's the first clinical I feel totally comfortable with and actually enjoy.
Anyway, time for me to get back to the books...Thanksgiving break doesn't exist for nursing students!
