2011 May Start LVN program Lone Star Montgomery

Published

Found this little nifty website last night! Trying to find some information about the LVN program that starts in May 2011! Has anyone received their acceptance letter yet? What was your score? Hope to hear from some fellow people :nurse:

I too am VERY curious about this. Letters will not go out until June, according to nursing office receptionist.

I got a 7.81 on my application score. How bout you??

I'm taking my Hesi Dec 20th. What did ya think about the A&P part of the test?

This will be my 2nd time taking the test, the 1st time I failed the A&P part by 2 points :crying2:

Honestly, for me the A&P section was by far the most difficult, and from what I have discovered among my classmates, that is generally everyone's experience. I had actually JUST finished my A&P class for the program, literally days before the HESI and I came out of the class with a 102 average and still only scored an 83 on the A&P section; there was simply too much on there that I had never seen or heard of before that test, even after going through the HESI review book. It was kinda ridiculous really, I couldn't imagine having to take it WITHOUT an A&P class under my belt.

As long as you pass the A&P section, just do your best to do well on the other sections. I scored 83 on the A&P, a combined 95 on the English composition and a 100 on the math. My total application score was 7.81/8...HOWEVER...I do have people in my class right now that got in with 6.6s and 6.8s...

What was your other scores for the HESI? I can probably shed a little bit more light on it.....

The combined English score was a 93, math 88 and A&P 68. I finished the A&P class about 3 or so months before taking the test and I can honestly say I guessed on a lot, most, of those questions. Like you said a lot of that stuff I had never seen/read or heard about. I made an A in my A&P class.

I'm finding hard to study for the A&P section since there are sooo many things they could ask. :crying2:

:yeah::up::yeah:

Oh my goodness! Disregarding the math and the A&P, which is how they measure it, as far as your actual application score, the one that is out of 8 points total that is calculating 4 points for you "A" in A&P and a possible 4 points for your composite English you got a 7.72 out of 8!

That is exceptionally good. I scored 7.81 on my application score and ended up having the highest of anybody I've talked to about scores in my class......SOOOOO, as long as you pass the math again, and can pass the A&P portion, I can pretty much 99% guarantee you that you will get accepted with that kind of score. That's excellent, but the A&P is the only thing holding you back....I'm almost 100% positive you would have gotten in with a 7.72, all you need is a 70 on the A&P to qualify.

The only advice I can offer is to check out as much in the HESI review book(s) and as much as you can online, but even more important than that, when you're taking the test, try to relax and work each and every question and don't over think it. Just like you said you were doing, I was guessing on a hell of a lot more questions than I expected...best thing to do is eliminate the one or two answers you know it CAN'T be, and try to figure which of the remaining are MOST likely to be correct. That's been my strategy since high school and it's still working today in LVN school :w00t:

I'm sure if you just barely missed it the first time, having a better idea of what to expect this time, you will do fine. The good thing is when you retest you will be able to keep your old English Composite score on your application, which is a very good score. You only have to retest for the A&P.

GOOD LUCK!

...and keep me posted!

Thank you for all the advice :) Once this semester is over (monday for me) I plan on just hitting the books for the HESI. I'll keep you posted.

Congratulations! I know you must be thrilled...I remember the feeling when I got my letter like it happened just this morning. You are in for one heck of a ride, but it is COMPLETELY worth it!

I am at Kingwood. We started last August and will finish up this August. Right now we are in our 2nd semester/level 2. It's been an amazing experience and you will enjoy it! What program/campus are you going to?

Thanks CaseyT. I'll be attending the Montgomery campus. Are you planning to apply for a transition program?

Yes, definitely. My ultimate goal (long, long away type of ultimate :icon_roll) is to go to school to be a CRNA (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist).

But of course, you have to start somewhere and I started in the LVN program. If you are planning on doing the same, don't let anybody discourage you. There's a lot of students who will scoff at you for doing LVN-RN rather than the straight 2yr RN program-they are crazy. Going transition IS the better way!

I have 2 semesters left of prereq's to get out of the way to be able to apply to the LVN-RN program, which I will start completing the first semester after LVN graduation.

Montgomery is a great school for nursing; all of their programs. I haven't heard much on the LVN program, but what I have heard is that it's probably the best out of all the LSC campuses. I will more than likely be doing my transition there, even though I live in Humble and am only 10 minutes from Kingwood, from what I've heard the school is worth the drive. The lady who is the director of nursing now was actually one of my mom's professor for her LVN-RN transition back in 2005. I think her name is Manije, or something like that.

Best of luck to you though! I always like hearing peoples stories of how they got into nursing and how their application process went so please keep me updated and of course if you have any questions at all don't hesitate! Lord knows I had tons...also, if you don't mind me asking, how did you do on your HESI and on your final 8-point application score? I know there are a lot of people who search and read up on here about what scores get you accepted to the different campuses and I'm always curious as well.

my ultimate goal is a masters degree as well. i got a 93% on the english composite and my lowest section was a&p with an 80. my application score for this program was

7.7332. i just need pharmacology, sociology, and humanities to be ready for the transition. i'll probably retake english to bring my b up to an a, though. i took all of my classes in washington state so they all had to transfer in. it was a nightmare trying to get everything transferred correctly so i would meet the admissions requirements. i had my application submitted a week or two before the deadline but because a class was evaluated incorrectly, i wasn't able to get it changed until about a half hour before the deadline so my papers weren't faxed in until about 15 minutes before the deadline. talk about sweating bullets...
