Maximum infusion rate for a PICC line?

Published

I've been seeing PICCs recently at work and I am wondering what the maximum infusion rate for a PICC line is. I see the orders written to deliver fluids on a pump at a KVO rate. How high is too high and what is the rationalization for the KVO rate? Also, does the number of lumens affect the rate? Thanks for any guidance; if someone could point me in the right direction that would be great. So far I have found nothing that addresses the maximum rate/KVO issue.

Don't know for sure on the max, but the KVO rate is to do exactly what it says: Keep Vein Open. That's to make sure the PIC doesn't clot off.
