I'm planning to go for certification in Maternal Newborn nursing with ncc within the next year. I'm just interested in hearing about what other people have read or studied to prep for the test. How long did you give yourself to study/read before the test? I'm going to take the computerized version so I can register for it and then take it once I feel prepared. Any tips? Thanks!

A lot of people recommend:

Core Curriculum for Maternal-Newborn Nursing by Susan Mattson and Judy Smith

it's easy to study----like an outline and has a lot of good info.

there is a link.....you can find it through AWHONN, Barnes and Noble and Amazon, as well as half.com, I believe.

I wish you good luck in taking the step toward certication. It's a worthy goal!

I am also thinking of obtaining my certification next year so thanks for the book recommendation. My concern is that I have never worked in labor and delivery only in nursery and postpartum, and fear the Maternal newborn certification may be the wrong one for me. The only mother/baby certification I knew about was retired.

Maternal-newborn is the one you want, katnip. There is a lot of focus (at least this year, anyway) on pregnancy physiology, according to what I hear from colleagues who took it.
